Things you sell outright rather than rent

Sale items are things you sell outright — bait, firewood, ice, propane, apparel, gift shop stock. Unlike add-ons, they are not returned and have no calendar: they just need to be in stock.

They reach guests three ways: rung up at the Point of Sale, added to a reservation as a purchase, or offered during online booking.

The list shows each item’s name, price, whether it is offered during Customer Booking, and its status. Show Inactive includes deactivated items. Click one to open its detail page.

Selling online versus at the counter

Customer Booking decides whether guests can add an item while booking. It suits things worth pre-ordering — a firewood bundle, a welcome basket, a bag of ice waiting on arrival — because the guest gets what they want and you know to have it ready.

It suits impulse and variable stock much less well. A t-shirt sold online needs a size the guest cannot pick, and bait pre-ordered for a stay three months out may not be what you have on the day.

Keeping the list workable

The point-of-sale screen shows every active item, so a long list slows down every transaction. Deactivate seasonal stock out of season rather than leaving it on the board — it stays in your history and on the Sale Item Revenue report either way.

Organize what remains with sale item groups, which is what turns the counter screen from a wall of buttons into something usable with a queue waiting.
